Hunting Free-Range Aoudad
Pronounced “Ow-dad”, this sheep gets its name from the North African tribe of Berbers. The Aoudad, also known as Barbary Sheep, are large and strikingly beautiful animals. They are quick and nimble over terrain that would slow down any hunter. Newborns are capable of traversing rocky hills almost immediately after being born. Like most desert dwellers, they rest during the blazing sun and graze during the cooler hours around dawn and dusk. Taken from any Texas hunt, they mount beautifully on your wall for an impressive exotic animal trophy.

Aoudad rams and sheep both have 20-35 inch ringed and twisted horns that curve back from their heads. Tawny gold to red, the males have a delicate face with a silky beard that runs all the way down their chest. Properly mounted, this silky beard is majestic on your trophy wall!
The Aoudad is a lively sheep that loves to climb and usually moves about in groups of 2-10. Surprisingly, the female is often more aggressive than the male, especially when protecting their young.
Native Habitat / Countries
The Aoudad Sheep is native to the mountains of the Sahara desert and primarily lives in rocky arid mountains in isolated pockets throughout northern Africa, the North African Barbary Coast, and the foothills of Iran. However, they were introduced into the wild in Texas in the early 1950s in order to provide a new trophy animal for exotic game hunters and have been thriving here since that time.
