Alaska Blacktail Deer Hunting

Hunt Sitka from a Remote Hunting Lodge on Kodiak Island

If you are wondering where Blacktail deer are found in Alaska, Kodiak Island has a good population of blacktail deer. Kodiak’s deer are much larger then SE Alaska, reaching weights of 175 to 200 pounds, producing some excellent trophies. A big part of the appeal of Kiliuda Bay is the open country and it’s visibility. Hiking up the hillsides while spending time glassing and then stalking is the preferred way to hunt Sitka Blacktail deer. For the non-hiker, it is best to book a late-season hunt when you can stay down low and quietly wait for the deer to come to you.

Each day will begin with a hearty breakfast, then we’re off to transport you by boat to the spot of your choice (preferably with a partner) in Kiliuda Bay. You will be given a lunch and a VHF radio so that you can call to be picked up at the end of your hunting day. You will then be transported back to Kodiak Adventures Lodge where a comfortable room, hot shower, warm fire, and a delicious meal awaits you.

Sharing your stories with us will be the highlight of our day.

Alaska Sea Duck Hunting Outfitters

Guided Sea Duck Hunts on Kodiak Island

Kodiak Island, Alaska is truly a sportsmans paradise. For the traveling hunter the destination “Kodiak, Alaska” conjures up big bears and fantastic sea duck hunting. For waterfowl hunters, sea duck hunting on Kodiak Island, Alaska is one of the top destinations to experience waterfowl hunting at its finest. There is a large variety of species including: Black, White Wing, and Surf Scoters, Harlequin, Old Squaw, Common and Barrow’s Goldeneye, Red Breasted and Common Merganser, Bufflehead, Bluebill, Mallards and many other puddle ducks early in the season. Some of the puddle ducks also winter here in Kodiak and can be hunted until the end of the season. Alaska’s sea ducks migrate to here, not though here. Kodiak Island is the final wintering place for many of them and Kiliuda Bay is ice free all winter. The season starts in October and runs through late January. If you are looking for fully plumed birds to mount, I suggest hunting in mid Nov. – January.

We provide fully guided Alaska duck hunting charters. You will be hunting over decoys with a guide and a top quality retriever . Depending on the season, you may get the opportunity to do some jump shooting as well.

To provide you with a quality hunt our groups size is 2-4 hunters. This gives your group exclusive use of the lodge.

Duck hunting has been a lifetime passion. We have hunted birds from Texas to Alaska and nothing compares to the sea duck hunting on Kodiak Island. We will work hard to provide you with the duck hunt of a lifetime. So practice up, bring lots of shells and get ready for your stay at our comfortable Alaskan lodge with hot showers, great meals and ocean view rooms.

All birds will be cleaned, wrapped, boxed and ready for transport at the end of your hunt. During your duck hunt you may even choose to do a day of Halibut and Black Rockfish fishing as well or  some fox hunting at no additional charge . We sell 1 day fishing licenses also.

We can also customize any one of our trips to include other hunting or fishing opportunities. It only takes your imagination for us to put together your combo package.

Kodiak Island Remote Hunting Lodge

Full Service, All-Inclusive Duck and Blacktail Deer Hunts in Alaska

Kodiak Adventures Lodge is a full service, remote ocean front lodge. Guest access is by float plane only 50 air miles south of Kodiak City. Our nearest “neighbors” are 26 boat miles away in the little village of Old Harbor. The lodge sits at the head of Kiliuda Bay north of Old Harbor. Even though we are remote, we have all the modern amenities and full time “green” electricity. With our installation of a micro hydro unit and solar panels on site a few years ago (generator backup as emergency) we are very pleased with our new quiet atmosphere.

We can accommodate up to eight guests for the hunting season. There are three spacious rooms, each with a king or queen bed and two twin beds. Each room has a private bathroom, woodstove, and a beautiful ocean view. Our guests can also relax in the evening by using the wood fired sauna which was was repurposed in 2013, by converting one of the original cabins (built in the late 60s).

At our wonderful remote Alaska lodge you can look forward to enjoying delicious meals in our spacious dining room. We serve a full breakfast (Ex: omelettes, french toast, pancakes, egg strata) including fresh fruit, tea, coffee and juice. A nice lunch will be packed for the boat that includes sandwiches, snacks and beverages to go while you are out exploring remote Kodiak Island and Kiliuda Bay. We will tempt your appetite upon your return to the lodge with an appetizer while you relax from your days adventure. Later we serve dinner with meals like aged steaks on the grill with fresh crab, scallops fettuccine alfredo, grilled pork loin and asparagus or one of our other hearty meals. We also serve fresh seafood “catch of the day” with most of our other entrees. Dinner includes homemade breads and organic vegetables. Our desserts are also homemade and served daily.

At the end of the day you can swap stories with other outdoorsmen while enjoying the camaraderie in front of the woodstove. You can share a friendly game of pool or darts. There is satellite television to catch up on your sports and news. Or just put your feet up and take in the awesome veiw from the great room.

Limited Internet service is available at the lodge: We do not have wifi internet or cell phone service. A laptop is provided for checking and sending emails. Because of our remote location our Satellite link has a very limited band width.  Unfortunately  sending pictures, skype, facetime, downloads or uploads, streaming videos / youtube is not available. This is a small inconvenience but coming to our lodge and experiencing the wilderness of Alaska makes up for it.
