Safe and hospitable, Namibia is a land of mystery and intrigue which captures the imagination with the beauty and diversity of its age old landscapes.
The republic of Namibia is a southern African country on the South Atlantic Ocean which shares borders with Angola, Botswana, South Africa and Zambia. A former colony of both Britain and Germany and later under the control of South Africa, the Namibian War of Independence ushered in an Independent Namibia on 21 March 1990.
Namibia is an intriguing ancient land of beauty and diversity. Its soil is full of geological wonder and its desert-like landscapes is scattered with fossils and minerals. Its tourism attraction is unique and it gives one an indication of the earth at creation.
An ancient land Namibia was first inhabited by the Khoi-San hunter-gatherer clans, who left behind the beautiful artwork of the largest collection of rock art paintings in
Africa, found in Twyfelfontein. The oldest desert in the world, the Namib Desert stretches along the whole west coast of the country, while the Kalahari Desert runs along its southeastern border with Botswana.
The Namibian landscape consists of six general geographic areas: Central Plateau, Namib Desert, Coastal Desert, Great Escarpment, Bushveld and Kalhari Desert.
With its surface area of 824,292 km, Namibia is the 34 th largest country in the world. It stretches for about 1 300 km from south to north and varies from 480 to 930km in width from west to east.
