Rosslyn Safaris hunts out of Cawston Block, which is a dedicated safari area of 32,000 acres just north of Bulawayo. When it was first bought in the late 1980’s, game numbers were low. Intensive management, appropriate utilisation of natural resources, and the introduction of new bloodlines for a number of species effected a long lasting transformation in a land naturally suited to wildlife. The result is a superb safari area with possibly the largest privately owned free ranging herds of sable and tsessebe in Zimbabwe.

Bow Hunt Leopard, Tsessebe, Sable, and Plains Game

Hunting here lends itself well to bow-hunters, although rifle are also welcomed. Minimal sharing of camp and hunting fields especially no mixing of bow and rifle hunters of different parties. Predominantly plains game, we also have leopard on quota each year. We offer both bow and rifle hunting for leopard, sable and plains game in their natural habitat. We can also combine our hunts with dangerous game hunts on other hunting properties in Zimbabwe, creating a truly unique and customised experience.

With a wide range of free roaming wild animals and amazing bird life, there’s so much to experience. It’s a true piece of African paradise and a must for any hunter’s bucket list.

Family patriarch Peter Johnstone has been doing this longer than almost anyone in the industry. In the early 1970’s, the Rhodesian Government realized the economic benefits of wildlife over cattle in the more arid parts of the country and decided to expropriate all the land here and convert it to Wildlife Safari use.  Peter and Carole Johnstone won the lease rights to Unit 3, the land they were already managing, and became sole owners of their business. Nearly 50 years later the entire Matetsi Safari Area is still renown as being an amazing vast wilderness with excellent hunting opportunities. Not only is Peter an avid hunter in his own country, but he also seeks to experience hunting opportunities the world over. These trophies are now hanging in his office and in the Rosslyn Safaris camp. Peter and Carole each have a fabulous story which involves the people, the scenery, the time spent out walking the terrain.  Peter will gladly share his stories with you around the camp fire!

Set amongst trees overlooking a waterhole, the lodge consists of five luxury tents with bathrooms. Field to table homemade food. Water is the life blood of all living creatures. However, this area typically receives rain for just five months of the year. To support the wildlife in the dry months, Rosslyn has built over a dozen waterholes spread evenly across the farm. This means animals don’t have to migrate into human settlements. It also means that they have a wonderful selection of purpose built blinds/hides for bow hunting and photographic opportunities.
