Timberlost Outfitting is based out of Leoville, Saskatchewan approximately 140 miles north of Saskatoon. We own 4 Waterfowl Zones (47, 53, 54, 67) for our migratory bird area which is about 1000 square miles, but hunt the areas 5 to 60 minutes from base camp. For our waterfowl we are always chasing the X so we go where the birds are feeding in dry fields, usually pea or barley fields but this changes over the season.
Our Whitetail area is located between Chitek Lake and Big River. Saskatchewan Environment has rated this area as one of the best in Saskatchewan based on deer habitat and density. We have fifty non-resident deer tags on 120,000 acres in zone 67. We also have 20 Farmland Bear tags in zones (47, 53, 54) and 20 Forest Bear tags in zone 67 in the same areas as our deer hunts, so we know the land well.
Our bear hunts have a 100% success rate, we usually shoot about 15% color phase. We fish every morning in the clear waters of the numerous lakes in the area which are teeming with northern pike, walleye, perch and rainbow trout.
Our location in Saskatchewan is a Trophy Hunters paradise due to the good genetics, perfect habitat and few hunters, offering great opportunities for bucks over 170″. Firearm hunts and archery hunts are offered on a limited basis to maintain a low pressure hunting environment. We have 50 deer tags on 120,000 acres, but may not take 50 hunters if the deer herd appears it may not withstand that many hunters. We around 70 bait stations throughout our whole area and try to keep the stands around 2 kms apart with trail cameras going 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
The 5.5 day Whitetail Deer hunting trips are $5000 plus licenses ($310 US depends on exchange). Cost includes meals, lodging, trophy prep, taxes, pickup and drop off in Saskatoon. If a hunter doesn’t squeeze the trigger, we will give him a $1000 credit on next years’ hunt. We have a lot of repeat hunters.
Our hunting area is the first stop on the largest migration corridor in North America. Virtually all the land north of us is forest. The rich agricultural belt that spreads south begins at Timberlost Outfitting. The location is PERFECT for goose and duck hunting as we get the first shots at the flocks flying south so they decoy in great. The sheer numbers of ducks and geese is truly something to witness.
Our waterfowl guides have access to hundreds of square miles of the best goose hunting and duck hunting in Saskatchewan. We target Canada Goose in the mornings then ducks, snow geese, sandhill crane or grouse in the afternoons. We can also go fishing for Northern pike in the afternoon if you want to take a break from the birds.
The most important component of a good waterfowl hunt is SPOTTING, which is why our intensive spotting program is the backbone of our success. We spend many hours spotting each day, drive countless miles every week and put in many phone calls to ensure that you are hunting the best possible fields.
We have 20 forest bear tags on 100,000 acres and 20 farmland land bear tags on 1000 square miles. We harvest giant bruins. Our area has some of the most prime bear real estate in the province and country. We have around 60 different bait stations that we bait religiously. We have trail cameras on all of our bait stations going 24 hours a day 7 days a week so we know whats coming in, to get our clients their best chance at shooting a mature bear.
Every year we shoot a few of those once in a lifetime bears, what I like to call the 500 pound class, 22 inch skulls. We shoot a few coloured bears every year but only if they are mature so they spread the genes around. All of our baits stations are approximately a 20 yard shot, so you can use which ever weapon suits you. We usually get set up in the stand around 4 pm, after a morning of fishing and a hearty dinner.
The 5-day combo hunting and fishing package for Black Bear / Northern Pike is $3500 US plus licenses ($380 US pending exchange rate). Cost includes meals, lodging, trophy prep, taxes, pickup and drop off in Saskatoon.
