Hunting Trophy Buffalo
A buffalo, aka American Bison, is a burly, enormous animal similar to the Yak, Bison and Wild Cattle. They can grow up to a height of 5 to 6.2 feet and a much as 2,000 lbs. Males have huge crescent shaped horns with deep ridges that curve completely backwards. These horns can be another 5 feet long and have deep ridges on their surface. Obviously, buffalo are therefore valuable trophies that provide meat, horns and a hide that can be most useful.
Ecology/Behavior/Social Characteristics
Buffalo are herbivorous animals, which feed on plants. Their main source of food is grass. Some types of buffaloes feed on other plants as well. Buffalo chew their food well in order to break down the fiber found in plants. Their digestive system contains enzymes that can chemically break down cellulose, the major component of plant cells. Buffaloes also need a high intake of water. For this reason, most types of buffaloes, especially the Asian water buffalo, remain near a source of water. They are herbivorous animals, which feed on plants.
Native Countries / Habitat
Although not native to Texas, the American Buffalo has lived on the North American Continent for millennia. American Buffalo live primarily on the plains, prairies, and open valleys were they can graze widely on grass. While they are endangered and no longer roam free, they have been bred and hunted at Hunting Ranches to give a challenging hunt and deliver a unique exotic trophy.
