Cost and Trophy Fees for a Gemsbok Hunt

Prices to hunt an Arabian Oryx Trophy on a big game ranch averages between $7,000 – $11,000, which is considered moderately affordable for an exotic animal with such an impressive set of horns. The final total depends on the size of the rack, trophy fee, rifle or bow hunt, number of days, taxidermy fees, quality of accommodations, amenities and services available.

Hunting Trophy Gemsbok

If you havent seen one of the gorgeous animals in person, just know that the legend of the Unicorn probably began with them. Both male and female have long, thin horns that shoot skyward up to 30 inches. Look at the Oryx sideways, and you can easily imagine a Unicorn. Those long, slender horns and the bold chocolate brown markings on face and legs set the Arabian Oryx apart from other antelopes. The Arabian Oryx is one of the largest mammals of the Arabian Desert. The average adult weighs 140-170 lbs., stands 4-feet at the shoulder, and makes an unforgettable trophy mount. The Arabian Oryx makes both a fine exotic trophy and a great venison dinner.

Behavior/Social Characteristics

Oryx roam in herds as small as two or as large as twenty animals. Other than humans, wolves are their only predator, and they can live for as long as 20 years. The Arabian Oryx is so closely associated with the Middle East that Qatar Airways proudly shows off this native son with a large, red profile on the tailfins of all their airplanes.

Native Countries / Habitat

The Arabian Oryx once occupied most of the desert regions of the Arabian Peninsula, including some of the most arid areas in the heart of Arabia, which makes them comfortable in the hot Texas weather. Their brownish leg hair turns darker in the winter to absorb more of the suns warmth.
