Hunting Trophy Blackbuck
One of the prime trophies on any Texas exotic hunt, the Blackbuck Antelope is not one to miss. Blackbuck are one of the fastest land animals, great runners and when endangered they can run nearly 50 miles an hour! When a potential threat is spotted, the does react first and one of them will leap into the air to alert the others and scare off the predator. The entire herd follows suit with a few upward bounds before settling into a gallop away from the threat. But if you can successfully take a Blackbuck, it makes a fine exotic trophy, beautiful skin rug and a great venison dinner.
They are slender creatures with long spiraled horns pointing straight up, found only in males, are twisted in a tight spiral with up to five turns. Ridged laterally, they may grow up to nearly 30-inches long. Both sexes look alike, with white rings around their eyes, making them a truly striking trophy above the fireplace! As the males mature, they turn darker, from tan to a deep chocolate brown.
Native Countries / Habitat
Originally from India and the Indian Sub-Continent, Pakistan and Nepal, Blackbucks were introduced into Texas in the 1930s. Blackbucks generally live on open plains and open woodlands where they can graze on grass and leaves. They stay close to a water source as they require water everyday. As they migrate to find new sources of water, their main predators are wolves and jackals.
